Dean's first live album contains nine tracks of smiles, recorded live on Red Barn Radio. Dean appeared on Red Barn Radio's eighth broadcast of An Appalachian Christmas, which first aired on December 23, 2016. Dean then performed on Red Barn Radio's April 1, 2017, broadcast. Red Barn Radio programs are recorded live with an audience, and that gives Smiles the homey, front porch feel that fans have come to expect from Dean's performances.
